Yes. The SNS número de utente is granted to legal residents, which is why we ask for your proof of legal residence.
It is your SNS user number. You use it to access your family doctor, prescriptions and other public healthcare services.
No. Your número de utente is granted on the basis of your residence permit — a NISS (the Social Security number) is not required to obtain it, and retirees who do not work in Portugal generally do not need one for healthcare. If you also need a NIF first, we can obtain it as a separate service.
